Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden is the oldest garden of its kind in Japan, opening in 1933. Since then, it has seen many years raising alpine plants, particularly those from the Earth's colder climes. A total of 1,500 or so flora varieties are cultivated here, including some native to Mount Rokko itself. At an elevation of 865m, the climate within the garden resembles that of southern Hokkaido. Rokko may be a suburb of Kobe City, but this garden is a precious oasis of discovery and a window into the world of alpine plants throughout the seasons. Please confirm park hours via the official homepage before visiting, as it closes in the winter months.
