Kobe Center for Overseas Migration and Cultural Interaction

The Kobe Emigration Center, established in 1928 as a base of emigration of Japan, sent many people mainly to South America until it closed in 1971. The former emigration center was renovated and re-opened as the Kobe Center for Overseas Migration and Cultural Interaction in 2009, focusing on three main axes including (1) the "Sailing for Hopes and Unknown Fields (Emigration Center)"meant to preserve and display the history of overseas migration to younger generations, the "Field of Association with Multiple Cultures" intended to support people from overseas who reside in local neighborhoods, and the "Creation Field of Art" which provides cultural exchange through the arts, offering art classes and open studios in the renovated Kobe Emigration Center, which has been used by many people as a multi-cultural coexistence center.
