The Hakatsuru ('White Crane') Fine Art Museum, established in 1934 by Jihei Kano, the 7th-generation president of Hakutsuru Sake Brewery, houses a private art collection comprising around 1450 works in total, including two national treasures and 22 important cultural assets. The main building, evoking images of an Oriental palace, showcases a range of global finery, including ancient bronzeware, silverware, mirror and ceramics from China. The modern new building, which is home to Oriental carpets, offers visitors a truly exotic atmosphere to enjoy. The main building, a remarkable specimen of Showa-period architecture, contrasts superbly with the green at the base of Mt. Rokko and the red autumn leaves. No less impressive are the views from this vantage point, taking in Osaka Bay and the streets of eastern Kobe among other stunning sights.
