The famous Kobe Shushin-Kan Brewery compound, home of the sake brand Fukuju ("fortune and long life"), was established in 1751 and offers visitors the chance to taste and buy what is still handmade sake straight from the barrel. On-site recreational facilities include the fine dining resturant Sakabayashi, serving handcrafted tofu and soba buckwheat noodles, the Kobe Shushin-Kan Hall hosting concerts and rakugo (traditional Japanese comic storytelling) performances, and a garden setting where you can enjoy seasonal flowers and sake. It's a must-visit for overseas visitors in particular (English-speaking staff are available). Tours can be reserved.
