This temple was commissioned by the emperor and built in 651. Its three-storied pagoda and yakushi-do hall have been designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, and at approximately 25 meters high, the three-storied pagoda is one of the tallest three-storied pagoda of Important Cultural Properties. Buddhist statues of the Shakubuji 88 Temple Pilgrimage is located within the grounds, and the temple is also famous for its beautiful fall foliage.
