The Kobe Kitano Museum of Art is an ijinkan built in 1898 on a stone wall facing Kitano-dori. After the war, it was used as the official residence of the U.S. Consulate until 1978, when it was taken over by the White House, an open ijinkan that exhibits Art Nouveau glass art, and opened as the Kobe Kitano Art Museum in November 1996. The museum introduces the culture, history and charm of the Kobe Kitano Ijinkan quarter.
