VISIT KOBE

The shopping street features a mixture of new shops and venerable establishments that have been in business for more than a century. With 300 shops unique to Kobe as a port town including fashion, accessories, restaurants, cafes and tearooms, this is a sophisticated shopping zone in the mold of the classic Japanese shotengai (shopping arcade).

At the entrance to the Motomachi Shopping Street is La Luce, a stained glass arch which radiates an ethereal light. Passing beneath the arch, a dome-roofed arcade extends for 1.2 kilometers. Lit by the suzuranto street lamps that welcome visitors, homespun events are held in each season, such as Kobe Motomachi Music Week and Motomachi Night Market. This is a place to enjoy the culture and art of Kobe and Japan.
