Gozabune Atakemaru
This ship is modelled after the massive traditional Japanese ship Gozabune Atakemaru, built under the orders of Tokugawa Iemitsu, third shōgun of the Tokugawa dynasty in the 17th century.
Having served until May 2021 as a cruise boat on Tokyo Bay, she began operations in Kobe Harbor in October 2021.
The dignified interior was designed by Eiji Mitooka, the man behind JR Kyushu’s Seven Stars in Kyushu luxury train and Rokumon, the classic train of Shinano Railway. The cabin of the ship is full of wood paneling, screens and curtains, a mosaic of East and West, old and new. Passengers are ushered into a world that resembles a sea voyage scroll of old.
