The Kobe Customs Display Corner showcases panels that bring the role and history of customs inspections to life, from counterfeit goods banned from import to Japan, smuggling tactics, and items subject to the Washington Convention. Visitors can also try their hand at distinguishing authentic brand-name goods from fakes! The present-day Kobe Customs Government building was expanded in 1999 after the earthquake in an extension designed to blend seamlessly with the original government building, completed in 1927. Standing for over 90 years, the current government building has become a beloved symbol of Kobe's port for local citizens and a cherished historical landmark. In 2007, the building also earned certification as a precious remnant of the "modern industrial heritage" reflecting the history of Kobe and the commerce of its port, which continues to thrive to this day.
