Ikuta Shrine came into being in ancient times, with a history stretching back more than 1800 years. The present-day name of the surrounding metropolis, Kobe, originates from the word Kanbe, which referred to the house protecting the deity of Ikuta. Similarly, 'Ikuta' comes from the word 'Akuta', signifying a place full of vitality and life force. The deity here is also linked to marriage, and recent years have seen the shrine attract numerous athletes and artists in particular. With a very central location, Ikuta Shrine is never short of worshippers.
