Once the most popular entertainment district

The Hyogo (Shinkaichi) area that was once the most popular entertainment district in Kobe is still enjoyed by many for its retro atmosphere and old-fashioned eateries.
The Nagata area, that has connections with a famous cartoonist, has a new sight--Tetsujin 28-go (Gigantor) , the giant robot.

(Hyogo•Shinkaichi)

Hyogo-tsu, which was well known as a good natural port, has numerous historical sites, including Kiyomori-zuka Tomb/Biwa-zuka Pagoda, and the Hyogo Daibutu (Great Budda), Nofuku Temple
Shinkaichi, Hyogo Ward, that was until recent times the center of Kobe, still evokes an atmosphere of the Kobe of the good old days. Walk around and explore the still-popular eateries, coffee shops, and cinemas that screen rare movies.

(Nagata & Shinnagata)

The Nagata and Shin-Nagata areas were the worst hit by the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake, but they have been rebuilt and are once again a very lively areas.
Nagata has many eateries that serve okonomiyaki, which is popular with the locals, and the Kobe delicacies of bokkake (various dishes topped with simmered beef tendon and konnyaku) and sobameshi (stir fried noodles and rice) .
In honor of Mitsuteru Yokoyama, a cartoonist from Kobe famous for Tetsujin 28-go (Gigantor) and Sangokushi (Records of the Three Kingdoms), the Shin-Nagata community erected an 18m monument of Tetsujin 28-go (Gigantor) , and life size objects and stone statues of warlords from Sangokushi in the shopping street south of the Shin-Nagata Station. A must for anime fans.
